ACYC: INFINITE

Motivational Media, Inc. was hired by the Archdiocese of Mobile to handle all communications for the Archdiocesan Catholic Youth Conference for 2021, and they reached out to me to design the logo upon which the conference branding would be built.

Scope: Logo and Brand Identity for Conference

Overview

The Archdiocese of Mobile, ArchMob Youth Fest Each year the Archdiocese of Mobile hosts a youth conference for all high schoolers in the Archdiocese, which must appeal to and be exciting for youth age 14-18 (and their Youth Ministers). The conference theme for 2021 was “Infinite”, taken from a quote from Blessed Carlos Acutis: “Our goal must be the infinite, not the finite. The infinite is our homeland. Heaven has been waiting for us forever.”

Challenge

The Archdiocese wanted the design for the conference to evoke the Eucharist with a clean, modern, youthful vibe. They wanted “something that would look cool on a t-shirt," but did not have a set list of deliverables beyond that. We knew we needed to recommend how best to utilize the logo and branding to reach the target audience in an emotional way.

Solution

The target audience is tends to be avid social media consumers, so I knew designing for both the large conference screens/signage and the small screens of their phones and tablets would be important. I chose a simplistic representation of the Eucharistic host and chalice combined with the universal infinity symbol to visually communicate the concept, which received a monoline treatment for a modern, youthful vibe. The radiating dots around the host and those separating the words were included to both add visual interest and to give the animator additional elements with which to work. Finally, I chose a color palette that evoked peacefulness and tranquility in a somewhat masculine color scheme, to offset the delicacy of the lines and dots. I was sure to utilize mid-range colors that would pop on both a light and a dark background, since the organization has a preference for colored T-shirts and decorations. I also included several brand patterns to utilized in social media posts and various signage throughout the conference. The branding produced a cohesive feel for the conference areas that complimented both the energetic praise and worship portions of the weekend and the somber, reflective speakers and prayer times.
