Do you ever feel like God’s asking you to take a leap of faith in your business, even when you can’t see the whole path ahead? Same here. It’s exhilarating and terrifying all at once. Can you trust your next step to be the right one?
Recently, I’ve found myself standing at the edge of some big decisions in my own business. The risks are real, but so is my trust that God is guiding me—even when the next step feels more like a leap. And even when He won’t even show me the landing before I jump! So, let’s talk about what it means to trust God with those big unknowns in our businesses, and how our faith can carry us through the uncertainty.
Faith in the Unknown – Trusting God in Business Risks
Taking risks is a natural part of running a business. But when you’re building something faith-driven, those risks can feel even weightier. The stakes seem higher, when you feel like you’re living out your calling. Fear (and the enemy) can creep in; what if you let your customers down? What if you let your family down? What if you let God down? Man, the devil is good at his lies, isn’t he? We know in our hearts that those fears are largely unbased, and that our God will always be there for us. (He’s unshakable, unstoppable, never-changing — and so is His love for us!) But, getting our heads on board with believing that, really believing it, is often harder. Here are three ways I’ve been leaning on faith to navigate these moments, and I hope they encourage you too: |
1. Pray First, Act Second
Before making any big decision, pause for prayer. Whether it’s asking for wisdom, peace, or clarity, inviting God into the process transforms how we approach the unknown. Find time for a holy hour, especially in front of the Blessed Sacrament when you can, to just sit with God, and the big decision, and ask Him to show you what He wants you to do. Prayer reminds us that we’re not navigating this alone—and that the ultimate CEO has the best plan in mind. Give Him the time space to speak to you and to hear what He says.
2. Take the Next Step, Even If You Can’t See the Whole Path
In Scripture, we’re reminded that “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path” (Psalm 119:105). His word is not a high-beam headlight, shining far down the road—it’s a lamp to your feet. A lamp doesn’t show you the whole journey—it illuminates just enough for the next step. Trust that God will provide the light you need to move forward, one step at a time. And as long as you keep faithfully taking the next step, you’ll arrive where He’s leading you, and it will be a much better destination than you could have dreamed up on your own. (Ephesians 3:20 says it all!)
3. Focus on Who You’re Serving, Not the Fear
When fear of failure creeps in, shift your focus back to your mission. Who are you serving, and how will they benefit if you move forward? Remembering the “why” behind your business can help quiet those doubts and keep you grounded in purpose. Don’t forget that God planned in advance for you to do these good things in your life (Ephesians 2:10 – another good one!). Keep focusing on that, on the people who need you to do this hard thing, and you’ll be less focused on yourself and the potential risks of failure.
Final Thoughts
I hope these tips can help you find clarity through whatever hard decision you’re up against. I’m learning in my journey that patience is the thing I need most; I like my mountains moved out of my way yesterday, thankyouverymuch, but God’s plans are often slower and more nuanced than I expect. And that’s definitely a good thing, even if it makes me frustrated. Trusting God is often hard, but you can do hard things!
